Members
Sandman, a veteran of the Boston underground scene, had been active in several bands, notably Treat Her Right with Conway. Colley was a former member of the Boston band Three Colors, and had occasionally guested with some of Sandman's earlier groups.

Morphine's instrumentation was quite unusual: Sandman's primary instrument was a two-string bass guitar played with a slide (though on the group's records he added touches of guitar, piano, electric organ and other instruments); Colley played primarily baritone saxophone, (along with soprano or tenor saxes, and the rare bass saxophone, and he sometimes played two saxes at once, a la Roland Kirk; he also played occasional percussion, and dobro on a B-side). Drums and percussion were played by Jerome Dupree and later by Billy Conway.
During the Cure for Pain recording sessions in 1992, Deupree was replaced by Conway. It has been reported by Colley that Deupree had to be replaced because he was suffering from a serious illness. Before leaving the sessions and the band he continued drumming in the studio while fighting the illness, completing most of the percussion work heard on the album. Conway would stay on as a permanent member of Morphine while Deupree would later return to perform with the band, both in the studio and on the road. Morphine's final album, The Night, credits both men and includes a photo of both drummers playing with the group simultaneously.

Morphine recorded their debut album, Good, for the Rykodisc label in 1991. The album received positive reviews and established a small but devoted audience.
Their second album, Cure for Pain, was released in 1993. It generated growth of the band's audience outside of New England, and singles like "Thursday" and "Buena" picked up some college radio play. "Sheila" and "In Spite of Me" were prominently featured on the soundtrack of the 1994 film Spanking the Monkey. "Buena" was also prominently featured in a 1999 episode ("Boca") of the hit HBO television series The Sopranos. The music video for this single was also featured in the same episode, a first for the television series.
Sandman introduced the group at every live performance by declaring, "From Boston, Massachusetts we are Morphine at your service." Over the years he developed a reputation for antagonizing certain audiences and even his own road personnel by inviting song requests and then ignoring them. The band would also force encores, even if they were premature, with Sandman declaring the audience had "received [it's] money's worth" before exiting the stage. Other times, the stage lights would be dimmed though the group would never leave the stage; when the lights came back up, Sandman would welcome the audience to the encore.
A more popular feature of Morphine live performances became known as "Poetry Time" - a short beat-inspired spoken word session conducted by Sandman and accompanied by Colley on saxophone. During breaks between songs, audience members would sometimes tease Sandman by shouting, "Play something good!" - a reference to lyrics from the song "Buena". This quickly became an in-joke between dedicated fans and the band.
The band toured extensively in support of the album in the United States, Europe, Japan and Australia, bringing an international audience to their next Ryko release in 1995, Yes. In 1996 Morphine signed with Dreamworks Records, becoming the second act signed to the new label. Dreamworks released their major label debut, Like Swimming, the following year. Like Swimming was a critical success but did not break the band into the domestic mainstream as had been hoped. A music video was released by Dreamworks for the single "Early To Bed". Directed by Jamie Caliri and released in March of 1997, the nightmarish yet humourous video became an instant favorite among fans and was later nominated for a Grammy award.
Although Morphine was critically lauded throughout their career, it is much more difficult to measure their level of commercial success. In the United States the band was embraced and promoted by the indie rock community, including college radio stations and MTV's 120 Minutes (which the band once guest-hosted), but received little support from commercial rock radio and other music television programs. This limited their mainstream exposure and success in their home country while internationally they enjoyed mainstream success and support, especially in France and Australia.

Sandman's death
On July 3, 1999, Sandman collapsed on stage at the Giardini del Principe in Palestrina, Latium, Italy (near Rome). He was soon pronounced dead of a heart attack and Morphine immediately disbanded. The band's final studio album, The Night, was completed before Sandman's death and was subsequently released in 2000, becoming the band's most critically-acclaimed album to date. Since then, an "official live bootleg" and a "Best of" collection have also been released under the Morphine name.

IGGY POP aka THE ROCK IGUANA well guyz today am writin about "Iggy Pop" well he is in the music industry for decades n is rather called the "Godfather Of Punk Rock" n is one of the most DYNAMIC stage performers of all time cos man he is a maniac .........he is the damn "pioneer" of "stage dive's"
Iggy has been havin a spanning carrear throughout his life he started as a drummer for a band called "the igunas" tats how he got the name 'iggy' then he became the lead singer of a band called "The Stooges"which were quite popular in the 1960's n 70's n this band was highly influential in the devolopment of the 'hard rock' genere , n he quit the band and has a 25 year solo credit to his life as singer...
Iggy has been a very succesful singer with a voice tat really tickles ya rib n he sings from his heart n u can feel it in his songs .......n moreover he has been a eyecatcher all his life cos of his " LEAN MUSCULAR FRAME N HIS FLEXIBILITY EVEN AT A AGE OF 60 IGGY STILL MAINTAINS THE LEAN MUSCULAR IMAGE WHICH HE DONNED FROM THE BEGGNING OF HIS MUSIC ERA"

1968 to 1975: The Stooges era
One year after their debut, and now dubbed the Stooges, the band were signed to Elektra Records in 1968. The Stooges' first two albums, The Stooges and Fun House, sold poorly, although they had a lasting influence on the burgeoning punk movement. Shortly after the new members joined the band broke up because of Pop's growing heroin addiction.
David Bowie salvaged Pop's career by producing an album with him in England. With James Williamson signed on as guitarist, the search began for a rhythm section. However, since neither Iggy nor Bowie were satisfied with any players in England, they decided to re-unite The Stooges. It would not be a true reunion, in that Dave Alexander would not play on the album. He had become a full-on alcoholic, unable to play on the record; he died in 1975. Also, Ron Asheton was grudgingly moved from guitar to bass to make way for Williamson to play guitar. The recording sessions produced the punk rock landmark Raw Power, in 1973. After its release a new member was added to the band and Bowie continued his support, but Pop's drug problem persisted. The Stooges' last show ended in a fight between the band and a group of bikers, documented on the album Metallic K.O.. Drug abuse put his career on hold for a couple of years.

1976 to 1978: Bowie and Berlin
After the second breakup of the Stooges, Pop made some recordings with James Williamson, but these weren't released until 1977 (as Kill City). The record was credited jointly to Pop and Williamson. Pop was unable to control his various drug habits, however, and checked himself into a mental institution to try and clean up. David Bowie was one of his few visitors there, and he continued to support Pop. In 1976, "when I wasn't doing much" as Pop euphemistically put it, Bowie took Pop along as his companion on the Station to Station tour. This was Pop's first exposure to large-scale professional touring and he was impressed, particularly with Bowie's work rate.
Bowie and Pop relocated to Berlin to wean themselves off their addictions (Bowie was existing solely on milk, cocaine, and peppers). Pop signed to RCA and Bowie helped write and produce The Idiot and Lust For Life (both 1977), Pop's two most acclaimed albums as a solo artist, the latter with another team of brothers, Hunt and Tony Sales. Among songs they wrote together were "China Girl" and "Tonight", both of which Bowie performed on his own albums later on. Bowie also played keyboards in Pop's live performances, some of which are featured on the album TV Eye (1978), and helped Pop focus on his career. Pop offered backing vocals on Bowie's Low

WELL AS A FACT I HAVE BEEN ONLLY LISTENIN TO HIS OL SONGS COS MAN THEY HAVE A LIFE IN THEM BUT YA I CAN TELL YA THIS GUY REALLY ROCKSSSSSSSSSS

Influence
Pop earned a place in punk rock history by popularizing many of the stage routines that are now commonplace among musicians: he was among the first to stage dive and "crowd walk," for example. Some of his stage antics have yet to have been topped by even the most "outrageous" of contemporary bands: among other things, in his prime he was known to cut himself and roll around in peanut butter on stage, and is rumoured to have once received oral sex from a fan in front of an audience.
Although Pop has never had a Top 10 album or best-selling single, his impact on rock music is widely acknowledged; among the famous musicians who have claimed him as an influence are The Sex Pistols, The Ramones and Nirvana.
The song "Punk Rock" on the album Come On Die Young by Mogwi is also a tribute to Pop, as it samples a speech that Pop gave on punk rock from an interview on CBC.
During that interview, Peter Gzowski asked Iggy to clarify music labeled as "punk rock." Iggy, as some have now dubbed "the Grandfather of Punk," sat upright in his chair, to emphasize the points he made below, as the basis for his opinion of the term used to describe his music, in what some could view as a defiant response, respectful of the interviewer, before "punk rock" became a well-known genre.
Pop ended his speech (or tirade) in indignant repose, after which he defended the use of "punk" to describe those who use such a term to describe music, and the fan base behind the movement. He praised punk artists, including himself, whose music fall into that genre.
In the following, he describes the use of the term by those who attempt to label "punk" with a common disaffected brush, attempting to appeal to the interviewer, while providing a definition.
I'll tell you about punk rock: punk rock is a word used by dilettantes and, uh... and, uh... heartless manipulators, about music... that takes up the energies, and the bodies, and the hearts and the souls and the time and the minds, of young men, who give what they have to it, and give everything they have to it. And it's a... it's a term that's based on contempt; it's a term that's based on fashion, style, elitism, satanism, and, everything that's rotten about rock 'n' rolL.
I don't know Johnny Rotten... but I'm sure, I'm sure he puts as much blood and sweat into what he does as Sigmund Freud did. You see, what, what sounds to you like a big load of trashy old noise... is in fact... the brilliant music of a genius... myself. And that music is so powerful, that it's quite beyond my control. And, ah... when I'm in the grips of it, I don't feel pleasure and I don't feel pain, either physically or emotionally. Do you understand what I'm talking about? Have you ever, have you ever felt like that? When you just, when you just, you couldn't feel anything, and you didn't want to either. You know, like that? Do you understand what I'm saying, sir?

Durin his solo carrear Iggy recorded a song n the lyrics were by the gr8 Jim Morrison n this song brought lot of credit to Iggy's solo hitus

The Passenger------ Lyrics
I am the passenger
And I ride and I rideI ride
through the city's backsides
I see the stars come out of the sky
Yeah, they're bright in a hollow sky
You know it looks so good tonight
I am the passenger
I stay under glass
I look through my window so bright
I see the stars come out tonight
I see the bright and hollow sky
Over the city's a rip in the sky
And everything looks good tonight
Singin' la la la la lalalala...
Get into the car
We'll be the passenger
We'll ride through the city tonight
We'll See the city's ripped backsides
We'll see the bright and hollow sky
We'll see the stars that shine so bright
The sky was made for us tonight
Oh the passenger
How how he rides
Oh the passenger
He rides and he rides
He looks through his window
What does he see?
He sees the stars and hollow sky
He see the stars come out tonight
He sees the city's ripped backsides
He sees the winding ocean drive
And everything was made for you and me
All of it was made for you
and me 'cause it just belongs to you and me
So let's take a ride and see what's mine
Singing... la la la la lalalala...
Oh, the passenger
He rides and he rides
He sees things from under glass
He looks through his window's eye
He sees the things he knows are his
He sees the bright and hollow sky
He sees the city asleep at night
He sees the stars are out tonight
And all of it is yours and mine
And all of it is yours and mine
So let's ride and ride and ride and ride...
Singing... la la la la lalalala...

the halo slipping down my neck and chokin me!!!

well as i cam ehome for lunch i was goin through my dads ol stuff n i found a 70's record of BLACK SABBATH...a band which is one of my most influencing bands of all time man ozzy hantin voice n geezer's bass man sounds like a rock pounding on my head amazin bass
i was also intrested in geezers occoult love that started tendin the band towards satanic lyrics n u guyz trust me the manager n the record company guyz earned money out of geezers occult love n the impact of the occult on the lyrics....
in the 60's the heavy bands had emerged leavin behind the blues music but many bands had a tinge of blues in them ,but black sabbath na...these guyz stood out!!!
many of black sabbaths songs dealt with truly satanic lyrics like their theme song N.I.B...initially black sabbath were confused with their contemporaries such as black widow who included mock sacrifices n satanic rituals in their stage performences...however an "inverted cross" inside the gatefold of their album confirmed they were dabbling wid the dark forces....

well ozzy n the band had made a statement in the u.s.a after a tour "WE WISH TO THANK THE GREAT COKE-COLA COMPANY OF LOS ANGLES" which led a police warrant for the band n they were caught wit class A narcotics

well dad was tellin me tat the song warpigs was originally walpurgis(duh...dad am ya son i listen 2 the same shyt u used to listen too n i know tat walpurgis was banned n so they changed the lyrics of the song)
well walpurgis was a pure satanic song n i had been tryin years to get the lyrics of tat song n then my gr8 dad went through his stuff n took out a ol' casseten a tattered diary...
man my old man had the lyrics of "walpurgis" now i think my dad earned a pat on his bac;)
the lyrics r

walpurgis
the only place OZZMAN cometh
witches gather at black masses
bodies burnin in red ashes
on the hill the church in ruin
is the scene of evil doings
its a place for all bad sinners
watch them eating dead rats innards
i guess its the same where ever u go
oh lord yeah

carry banners which denounce the lord
see me rocking in my grave
see them annoint my head with dead rats blood
see them stick the stske through me
oh...

dont hold me back cos i have just gotta go
they have got a hold of my soul now
lords got my brain instinct
with blood obscene
look in my eyes am there enough
yeah...

on the scene a priest appears
sinners falling at his knees
satan sends out funeral pyre
casts the priests into the fire
is the place for all bad sinners
watch them eatin dead rats innards
i guess its the same where ever u go
oh lord yeah

here in this pic u cannot see the band but u can get a idea of their songs n the characters of the songs the son characters are

-iron man

-war pigs

-n.i.b

-the wizzard

-paranoid

seriously i think the cult left by black sabbath will be enjoyed foe more generatins to come...
black sabbath u will alwayz be my fav...

well been so many years music seems 2 b my life in evry possible way but one haunting voice is alwayz stuck in my head n its of "Layne Staley" of the band Alice In Chains
n guys trust me he has an amazin voice n he will alwayz b my inspiration tat i had through out my topsy turvey ride in my life which i had...

At the age of 12, Staley began playing drums and played in several glam bands in his early teens, but aspired to be a singer. He later traded in his drum set for a microphone. He met up with Jerry Cantrell in 1987, and joined Cantrell's band Diamond Lie. Eventually, the band renamed itself Alice in Chains. Originally a glam band, Alice in Chains shifted into marked metal influences, and was soon included as part of the burgeoning grunge movement.

Like several other musicians in the Seattle grunge scene, Staley experimented with heroin. By the 1990s, Staley was battling an addiction. The darker side of addiction had its influence on Staley's lyrics. The Alice in Chains album Dirt showed this preoccupation in songs like "Sickman" and "Dirt", while Cantrell's lyrics focused mainly on the thoughts of death. "Would?" in particular addresses the death of Andrew Wood, singer of Mother Love Bone, who died of a heroin overdose in 1990
Alice in Chains opted not to tour in support of their 1994 EP Jar of Flies. Following its release, Staley began to work on a side project with several Seattle musicians, including Mike McCready of Pearl Jam and Mark Lanegan of the Screaming Trees. The band worked on material for several months, and eventually scheduled a show at the Crocodile Cafe under the name The Gacy Bunch. Within a few weeks, the band changed its name to Mad Season. In January of 1995, Mad Season performed two songs on Pearl Jam's Self Pollution Radio broadcast, "Lifeless Dead" and "I Don't Know Anything". The band completed an album, titled Above, which was released in March of 1995. The first single, "River of Deceit", became a modest success at alternative radio. A live performance filmed at the Moore Theater in Seattle was released in August of 1995.
During Alice in Chains' hiatus, rumors of Staley's heroin addiction began to spread. Alice in Chains regrouped to record a self-titled album, released late in 1995. To accompany the album, the band released a home video, The Nona Tapes, in which they poked fun at the rumors of Staley's addiction – several sources had announced his death during the hiatus, Charles Cross would later say that they had Staley's obituary on stand-by at The Rocket – but the band lapsed again, failing to complete tours planned in support of the album. After the death of his girlfriend, Demri Parrott in 1996 from bacterial endocarditis caused by drug use, Staley became more and more reclusive. Fans saw firsthand the effects of Staley's drug abuse during the band's Unplugged appearance. Staley was visibly weak and emaciated and had problems singing at times. His last performance was on 3 July 1996 in Kansas City, Missoui, while they were touring with KISS after their Unplugged appearance.
Staley remained out of the spotlight for the next several years. In 1998, Staley emerged as part of a supergroup called Class of '99, featuring members of Rage Against the Machine and Porno for Pyros. The group recorded parts one and two of Pink Floyd's "Another Brick in the Wall" for the soundtrack to the movie The Faculty, with a music video filmed for part two. While the other members of the group were filmed specifically for the video, Staley's appearance consisted of footage pulled from Mad Season's 1995 Moore Theater video.
In October of 1998, Staley emerged to help record two new tracks ("Get Born Again" and "Died") with Alice in Chains, which were released on the Music Bank box set in 1999. On July 19, 1999, syndicated radio program Rockline was hosting Cantrell, Inez, and (via telephone) Kinney for a discussion on the release of Nothing Safe: Best of the Box, when, unexpectedly, Staley called in to participate in the discussion.
At the beginning of 2002, Staley conducted an interview with author Adriana Rubio, in which Staley talked about the damage caused by his heroin addiction: "I'm not using drugs to get high like many people think. I know I made a big mistake when I started using this shit. It's a very difficult thing to explain. My liver is not functioning and I'm throwing up all the time and shitting my pants. The pain is more than you can handle. It's the worst pain in the world. Dope sick hurts the entire body."
On April 19, 2002, Staley was found dead in his home. His body was surrounded by various drug possessions and e\quipment. He was 34 years old. As he had apparently died two weeks earlier, Staley's body was not immediately identifiable, and a positive identification was not released until the next day. The autopsy report later concluded that Staley died after injecting a mixture of heroin and cocaine known as a "speedball". By coincidence, the coroner's office estimated that he died on April 5th, the same date that fellow Seattle Grunge rocker Kurt Cobain was estimated to have died eight years earlier.
Friend and bandmate Jerry Cantrell, who had tried to stay in touch with Staley and maintain their friendship, released the solo album Degradation Trip in June 2002 and dedicated the album to Staley's memory.
Several other musicians paid tribute to Staley in music. Aaron Lewis lead singer of Staind, penned a tribute to Staley titled "Layne" for Staind's 2003 album 14 Shades of Grey. Eddie Vedder, lead singer of Pearl Jam, also recorded a song eulogizing Staley, titled "4/20/02" (the day Vedder heard the news and subsequently wrote the song). The song featured only Vedder singing and playing the guitar in a ukulele\-inspired tuning, and was released as a hidden track on Pearl Jam's 2003 B-sides album Lost Dogs. Zakk Wylde also wrote a song about Layne Staley called "Layne" on the Black Label Society album, Hangover Music Vol. VI
Following Staley's death, Alice in Chains officially disbanded. For the next several years, the band refused to perform together out of respect for Staley. In 2005, the remaining members reunited for a benefit concert for victims of the December 26, 2004 tsunami, with several vocalists filling in for Staley. Following positive response, the band decided to reunite formally in 2006. In an interview with MTV News, Alice in Chains drummer Sean Kinney noted that the band would use the reunion concerts to pay tribute to the songs and to Staley. William Duvall, a member of Cantrell's solo touring band (who often sang Staley's parts on the Alice in Chains songs that Cantrell performed), was announced as Staley's replacement for the reunion shows.
In the same interview, Kinney noted the reunion didn't necessarily foretell a future for Alice in Chains. "If we found some other dude, I'd love to move on, write some cool tunes and change the name and go on like that. I don't see continuing as Alice and replacing somebody. ... We're not trying to replace Layne. We want to play these songs one more time, and if it seems like the right thing to do, it'll happen. I don't know how long it will go or where it will take us. It's kind of a tribute to Layne and our fans, the people who love these songs."

Awake.Shake dreams from your hairmy pretty child, my sweet one.Choose the day and choose the sign of your daythe day's divinityFirst thing you see.
A vast radiant beach and cooled jeweled moonCouples naked race down by it's quiet sideAnd we laugh like soft, mad childrenSmug in the wooly cotton brains of infancyThe music and voices are all around us.
Choose they croon the Ancient Onesthe time has come againchoose now, they croonbeneath the moonbeside an ancient lake
Enter again the sweet forestEnter the hot dreamCome with useverything is broken up and dances.
Indians scattered, On dawn's highway bleedingGhosts crowd the young child’s, Fragile eggshell mind
We have assembled inside, This ancient and insane theaterTo propagate our lust for our life, And flee the swarming wisdom of the streets.
The barns have stormed The windows kept,And only one of all the rest To dance and save us From the divine mockery of words,Music inflames temperament.
Ooh great creator of being Grant us one more hour, To perform our art And perfect our lives.
When the true kings murders Are allowed to roam free,A thousand magicians arise in the land Where are the feast we are promised?
One more thing
